Meet Koro Koro: Japan's Most Charming Capsule Toy Brand

Round, cute, and rolling into Hong Kong near you

If you've ever walked past a row of colourful capsule machines and felt the irresistible urge to spin one, Koro Koro Collection understands you completely. The name itself comes from korokoro — a Japanese onomatopoeia describing something round and cute in appearance. It's possibly the most accurate brand name in toy history.

What is Koro Koro?

Koro Koro Collection is a Japanese capsule toy brand operated by IP4 Inc., a Tokyo-based company that has been running capsule vending operations since 2014. While they aren't a household name like Bandai's Gashapon empire, they've built a devoted following with consistently creative, well-crafted releases that punch well above their price point.

Capsule toys — known in Japan as gacha or gachapon — are dispensed from coin-operated vending machines. You insert a coin, turn the handle, and a mystery capsule drops out. The thrill is in the surprise.

The Lineup: Something for Everyone

Koro Koro's catalogue is genuinely surprising in its range. One series might be hyper-detailed miniature car replicas; the next could be gloriously silly meat-shaped keychains. Here's a taste:

  • Miniature cars — Honda S660 and Civic Type R in 1/64 scale, some as buildable kits supervised by model maker Hasegawa
  • Licensed characters — Rilakkuma, Sumikko Gurashi, Miffy, Care Bears, and a wide range of Sanrio characters
  • Planet balls — a set of 10 beautifully detailed solar system sphere collectibles
  • Miniature appliances — tiny washing machines and microwave ovens, some with lights, sound, and spinning drums
  • Novelty sets — meat-themed keychains, mini board games, fidget toys, and book lights
  • Mochi figures — soft, squishy Sumikko Gurashi and other character figures

Prices in Japan typically run 200–500 yen per capsule — the kind of price point where you can happily spin twice "just to try your luck."

Seriously Good Quality

What sets Koro Koro apart is how seriously they take their craft. Their miniature cars feature separate colour panels, painted tail lamps, metallic detailing, and working convertible roofs. Their buildable Civic Type R kit contains so many tiny parts that collectors have dubbed it "gacha-pla" — a gacha crossed with a scale model kit.

Their licensed character pieces are equally well-finished, with clean moulding and painted details. Each set is designed as a coherent collection rather than random figures thrown together.
